  1. Installation Procedure for Full Bible Version
  2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  4. VENDOR NOTE:
  5. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  6. -  If you got your copy from PC-SIG ROM, you have a bad install disk.
  7.    They corrupted it.  Contact us or PC-SIG for a replacement. We
  8.    will you with the latest install disk and a laser printed manual
  9.    for $5. See offer an end of this file.

  11. Hardware Requirements
  12. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  13.  
  14. - IBM XT, AT or compatible computer
  15. - at least 256K memory
  16. - hard disk drive C: (or another drive)
  17.     -  9 megabytes for AV
  18.     - 11 megabytes for Combined AV-NIV Version of Bible
  19.     -  2 megabytes for Greek Version
  20.     -  2 megabytes for Hebrew Version
  21.     -  4 megabytes for Spanish Version

  23. Software Requirements
  24. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  25. - almost any current version of MS-DOS or PC-DOS works
  26.  
  27. - DOS 1.00 to 2.10 and 4.00 do NOT work
  28. - DOS 2.11 to 3.31 and 4.01 to 5.00 do work
  29.     - (DOS 4.00 is NOT supported; it is too buggy.)
  30.  
  31. - DRDOS 3.41 or later should also work
  32.     - programme MAY run on earlier versions of DRDOS
  33.       but DRDOS is NOT 100% compatible with DOS,
  34.       so some things may not work
  35.  
  36. - DOS BOX under OS/2 version 1.1 & 1.3
  37.  
  38. - enter VER at DOS prompt if you don't know what version you have
  39.     - some DOS 4.01 versions are updated with a patch and show
  40.       a version of 4.00 even though it is version 4.01
  41.  
  42. Media Requirements
  43. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  44. - disk package should include:
  45.     - an INSTALLATION DISK to install ALL modules
  46.     - a TEXT module for each Bible version
  47.         - AV = Authorised Version text with Strong's #'s (7 disks)
  48.         - AV-NIV = Combined AV and NIV (10 disks)
  49.         - AV-RSV = Combined AV and RSV (10 disks)
  50.         - Greek Package (2 disks)
  51.         - Hebrew Pacakge (3 disks)
  52.         - RVA Spanish Version (5 disks)
  53.     - CROSS REFERENCE module (2 disks)
  54.     - an OPTIONAL module for the Greek and Hebrew LEXICONS (4 disks)
  55.         -lexicons work with AV, AV-NIV, and AV-RSV text only
  56. - if you have 720k disks, about half the number of disks are needed.

  58. Time Requirements
  59. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  60.  
  61. - installation takes about this long for the full AV
  62.  
  63.    - 30 minutes, 4.77 MHZ 8088 (XT)
  64.    - 20 minutes, 6.00 MHZ 286  (AT)
  65.    - 15 minutes, 25.0 MHZ 386  (AT class)
  66.  
  67. Installation is Easy
  68. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  69. 1) verify you have the correct hardware, software and media
  70.  
  71. 2) PUT WRITE PROTECT TABS ON DISKS
  72.  
  73. 3) if you have a version 3.03 or earlier installed,
  74.  
  75.    a) delete everything EXCEPT your notes directories
  76.    b) create directory on hard drive used to install Online Bible
  77.         e.g. md c:\bible
  78.    c) for each note directory, copy as follows
  79.         md   c:\bible\notes.000
  80.         copy c:\notes.000 c:\bible\notes.000
  81.         del  c:\notes.000
  82.         .
  83.         .
  84.         .
  85.         md   c:\bible\notes.300
  86.         copy c:\notes.300 c:\bible\notes.300
  87.         del  c:\notes.300
  88.     d) the installation marks your notes so the verse display
  89.        shows which verses have notes.
  90.     e) if you are unsure about how to do this, get a friend to help.
  91.  
  92. 4) make the floppy drive which contains the installation
  93.    disk your default drive, (i.e. set DOS prompt to A: or B:)
  94.  
  95. 5) enter GO from A: or B: DOS prompt to install the programme
  96.    DO NOT COPY DISKS ONTO HARD DRIVE - install from A: or B: drive
  97.  
  98. 6) reboot system after installation is complete
  99.  
  100. 7) use the mini-menu, MM to start the programme.
  101.  
  102. Directory Structure After Installation
  103. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  104. Version 4 and later uses the following directory structure.

  139. Network Installation
  140. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  141. - on a NOVEL or other network make sure the LASTDRIVE parameter
  142.   is correctly set in CONFIG.SYS to match the highest drive letter
  143.   used by the network.
  144.  
  145. Problems
  146. ~~~~~~~~
  147. 1) Data errors reading disks
  148.    - almost always caused by irregular spots ("dropouts") on disks,
  149.      but occasionally by actual disk damage (from a magnet, etc.),
  150.      and very rarely by dirty or poorly aligned read/write heads
  151.    - specify "Retry" to the DOS "Data error reading drive.." message
  152.    - Retry at least 50 times before giving up (this USUALLY works).
  153.      certain utilities such as PC Tools Compress (Surface) may work
  154.    - try on someone else's system
  155.        - if it works, COPY (don't DISKCOPY) the files to a better disk,
  156.          clean your drive heads and try again
  157.        - if it fails, reorder replacement disks from supplier
  158.  
  159. 2) installation fails or mysteriously aborts
  160.  
  161.     - you are likely running some sort of menu system that
  162.       has caused the installation to fail
  163.     - if you are running DOS 4.00 upgrade to DOS 4.01 or DOS 5.00
  164.       or some other release. DOS 4.00 is so buggy it is hopeless.
  165.     - boot system from your original DOS disk
  166.     - retry installation
  167.     - if it fails, call for help
  168.  
  169. 3) VIRUS infection detected
  170.     - the installation disk must have the following files
  171.         go.bat, bible.901, view.com, install.exe,
  172.         install.901, read.me, sharewar.doc
  173.     - if these are altered, CRT displays VIRUS infection message
  174.       and stops the installation.
  175.     - this means the disk has been altered or is damaged.
  176.     - get replacement from distributors.
  177.  
  178. 4) CRC errors during installation
  179.  
  180.     - disks altered by distributors or damaged
  181.     - get replacements from distributors
  182.  
  183. 5) installation ok, but programme aborts with "Undefined File(4)" message
  184.  
  185.     - update CONFIG.SYS to specify 20 files
  186.     - some machines like the Tandy 1000RL or PS/1 can be configured
  187.       so CONFIG.SYS is in ROM. 
  188.       - the set up information for the computer must be changed
  189.       - change this so it is on the C drive.
  190.       - see your hardware manual for your machine or your dealer for details
  191.     - see DOS manual for details
  192.  
  193. 6) all displays for programme are in black and white
  194.  
  195.     - read the manual.doc to see how to set the colours
  196.  
  197. Conclusion
  198. ~~~~~~~~~~
  199.  
  200. - if you have corrupted disks, get replacements from the one
  201.     you got them from
  202. - if you get stuck
  203.   - REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM FROM YOUR ORIGINAL DOS DISK IN DRIVE A
  204.     AND RETRY INSTALLATION BEFORE CALLING ANYONE
  205. - if you are still stuck, ask friend for help who knows about DOS
  206. - if you are still stuck, call your distributor
  207. - if he is stumped, write or call Larry Pierce for help and include your

  210.                       TWO important rules...
  211.  
  212.               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  214.                   1. Press "RETRY" up to 50 times if you
  215.                      get a "DATA ERROR" while installing.
  216.                      Sometimes opening and closing the drive
  217.                      latch and reinserting the disk fixes the
  218.                      problem.
  219.  
  220.                   2. If INSTALL fails mysterously, redo
  221.                      elminating ANY programme, device,
  222.                      menu, shell, RAM disk or file manager
  223.                      from memory.  ONLY DOS in memory. Its
  224.                      BEST to REBOOT from A: Drive using
  225.                      original DOS system disk.

  227.                      Create a DOS system disk with command:
  228.  
  229.                          format a:/s
  230.
